Now Hiring

The Human Resources Department is responsible for planning and coordinating many administrative functions throughout the City of South Salt Lake, from hiring and employment to worker relations and workplace disputes. Ensuring a friendly and efficient workplace for our nearly 400 City employees is our top priority.

What We Do

Our Department handles two main areas of administration:

Employment and Hiring

We advertise job openings, screen and review applications and set up interviews with prospective employment candidates. We also work with departments to determine the best fit for each opening, and communicate with prospective employees regarding their hiring paperwork, drug screens and background checks.

Workplace Relations

Our Department also mediates workplace disputes, including any of the following topics:

  • Sexual misconduct claims
  • Retaliatory action claims
  • Discrimination claims
  • Compensation complaints
  • Personal conflicts

Benefits

We offer City employees a complete benefits package including affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance. Each full-time employee also receives a $100/month to help with insurance premiums or medical expenses. In addition, we offer $50,000 in life insurance paid for by the City, paid sick leave, vacation and holidays. We participate in the Utah Retirement System for a pension and offer a 2% match into a 401K.

Job Application

The City of South Salt Lake has many employment opportunities throughout the municipality, including Public Works, the Fire Department, and the Police Department. There are three ways to apply:

FAQs:

Does HR handle payroll?

No. All City employee payroll is handled by the Finance Department.

What should I include with my application?

Applicants must include a resume and cover letter with their application, as well as proof of any certifications or licenses required to complete the job.

What benefits are offered to employees of the City?

The City of South Salt Lake offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package, which includes vacation time, sick time, paid holidays, health, dental, life, short-term disability, long-term disability, retirement, etc., which the City pays the premium in full or a portion thereof.
