City Attorney
Criminal Prosecution
The City Attorney supervises the prosecution of misdemeanors committed within the City of South Salt Lake, as well as any appeals from convictions for those offenses.
The City currently prosecutes only class B and C misdemeanors and infractions; it refers all class A misdemeanors to the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The City Attorney does not prosecute felony offenses.
The City employs a full-time prosecution agency, Cowdell & Woolley PC, to assist the City Attorney in prosecution.
In order to recover its costs, the City Attorney’s office charges fees for production of discovery in both civil and criminal cases. There is allowance for free discovery for individuals found indigent by the court presiding over a criminal proceeding.
